Hello, I am new to this stuff. I wanted to make up back up cds for my games to take with me on a trip to the desert. Well, I tried CDClone, BlindWrite and Alcohol, and I am still not able to create a cd back up. I was able to create the image with alcohol and the others, but the disc did not work. The funny thing is when I take the one disc out and load my "image" on to the "virtual" drive it lets me use the "cd" to play the game. The cds look like exact images. Am I only able to do the above and not what I want or am I missing a step?
Hi, If you can make a working image but not a working disc it sounds like your burner may not be up to the task. What games/protections are you trying to back up and what make/model is your burner?
I am trying to burn Call of Duty, Sim City 4, and Battlefield. I can not remember the securities. Also, maybe I should mention that I am using the alcohol trial version. My burner is a [bold]SONY DVD RW DRU-510A[/bold].
There are only two or three DVD burners able to accurately burn protections and as far as I know the DRU-510A isn't one of them. The newer protections, SafeDisc 3.10(COD) for example, are very hardware dependant. Is this your only burner? If you plan on making backups on a regular basis it would be well worth the $35 investment for a Lite On LTR-52327S CD/RW which is very adept at producing working backups. Hope this helps _X_X_X_X_X_[small] JMLS-166S/Plextor PX-708A/Plextor Premium[/small]
The ASUS522452/ASUS523252 is a better drive (IMHO) for just 5-10 dollars more I only suggest this because lots of protection companies target Litey's.
Here is a dandy question. How come a dvd burner isn't capable of this. And if I purchase a cd burner which one would be the best, but economically sensible?
DVD burners are designed to burn.... well.. DVDs and thus dont cover the all the little features specific to CD burning (i,e., all this 'sheep' business). As for CD burners, i think the best-performance vs best price is the Liteon 52x32x52 right now.
Do GameCopy http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...sp?EdpNo=674678&Sku=F256-1014&SRCCODE=BIZRATE or 321 STUDIOS GamesXCopy http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.pro...70&JRSource=linkshare.datafeed.321+GAMESXCOPY Live up to the promise of no matter what cd or dvd burner you have it will work.
I havnt had much experience with either product but Ive heard "not so good results" from GamesXCopy. Just play with Alcohol120 or BlindWrite and you should be more than fine.
They make talk a good game about their software but the newer protections require a burner that's up to the task.
