Hi there people, I am totally new to this, so I apologize if I am violating the forum rules for having just quickly gone through them due to my urgency in solving this issue. I just realized my LG GSA-H55N DVD reader and writer device is fully functional (as I have tested it in another computer), however my particular computer refuses to read DVDs through it. Right now I can: 1) Read CDs 2) Write CDs 3) Write DVDs with my device. The only thing I cant do is to read DVDs. Since the device was tested in other computer and found to be working properly (that is, also reading DVDs), I have come to the conclusion there is something wrong either in my computer set up (likely) or in the connections (less likely). My computer has never read DVDs before, as this is the first time I am trying. Is there a step that I am missing here? Should I get to configure, reset or install something else? Any help is deeply appreciated as I am running out of time. Kind regards from Chile, Germán
If your machine writes DVD it can read DVD. Do you have some sort of video or DVD player installed? If so, is the DVD option checked in the file associations option tab or panel?
Dear Peshtigo, Many thanks for your reply. I play all my videos with VLC media player. However, when I insert a movie DVD and go to My PC, although the icon shows a DVD-R device, the name is changed to CD-ROM and is empty, so it is not getting read from there. The same happens with a data DVD, so it is not a movie playing problem, but DVD detection. Thank you for your remarks anyway. Kind regards, Germán
try uninstalling it in device manager & restart windows so it can find the drive as new hardware & load it's driver.
Dear ddp, Many thanks for your suggestion. But I have done that dozens of times, including uninstalling the respective IDE channel, both reinstalled afterwards with no problems, and still getting the same results. Kind regards, Germán
