My itunes recently crashed for no apparent reason with my Ipod connected... I had to manually restart my powerbook. But now my ipod says there are 0 songs on it!! However, the hard disk is still filled with gigabytes of data. So I guess the songs are still on there... Is there any way to get them off?? I have spent hundreds of dollars on songs bought through the online music store... :-( I was going to back it up this week! Now fate has played tricks on me. I have tried a disc recovery program. But this sometimes recovers songs corrupted or with a very large filesize (100MB per song) I was wondering if there was any way for me to manually browse through the music folder on my ipod and manually copy the songs to my desktop. Or any other way to recover my beloved songs... I'm in a great deal of distress now.

Thanks for helping! I would be forever grateful.

Have you tried restoring your iPod by using the iPod updater? This will COMPLETLY erase all data on your ipod and return it back to factory settings. Heres the link:http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

Once downloaded, plug in your ipod, go to start, all programs, Ipod, and then click on the updater. Then, click restore and your ipod will be restored back to what it was when you first took it out of the box.

Hope this helps! Post back if you have any other issues.

If the songs were downloaded through iTunes, as it seems they were, you can redownload them all for free.

Open iTunes and click on 'Advanced' and then go to 'Check For Purchases' then it should find that you don't have all that music you've bought and download it for you!

I had the exact same problem, and ended up sending my iPod (5G) back to iPod as it was still under guarantee, and they sent me a nice shiney new one (which went back today because the same thing happened again!)

His iPod no longer has any songs on it hence the [bold]now my ipod says there are 0 songs on it!! [/bold] statement in his first post. So his hardrive no longer has the songs on it, or his iPod. He was wondering how to regain his [bold]purchased[/bold] music from the ITMS.

I don't mean to be a pest but a lot of people are answering questions that arn't even being asked.

DarkJello, you have been on my case for a while now, and he says there is data on the iPod, try using YamiPod or any other 3rd party iPod music transfer program to see if it sees any songs.
Or try and recover them with what DarkJello said. And if that doesnt work I have heard that if you phone apple and ask for the songs back they just might do it.

well then just copy them back over. And how does an iPod just erase. You must have dont something. Try adding your music folder(s) back into iTunes. to which will be copied back over to the iPod, if I missed something tell me what.

Thanks for all the help! I've tried numerous things and it seemed that the library file of my iPod was broken. So the songs were all still on the harddrive of my iPod but the iPod couldn't recognize them anymore. Neither could backup programs. I then found a way to make the hidden folders of my iPod visible on my mac and I managed to copy all the music files manually to my computer. Then I formatted my iPod and moved all the songs back onto it. Now my iPod is back in shape :-D

As for the remark of redownloading iTunes songs for free?? I didn't know that was possible. I thought you could download them once and that was it...

    Thanks anyway for the help!
