HI I was currently in the process of cleaning my pc and well I broke the motherboard it turns on but no video and when I plug the 4 pin power by the cpu (like the main power but has only 4 pins ) and try to turn it on it goes for half a sec then turns off ( like its grounded but it isnt it doesnt beep ( but then again I dont remember it ever beeping so here are my options I just want to sell it but I need to get it working first option 1 go get it fixed option 2 buy another motherboard ( if anyone knows a real cheap one but still a good one I have a core2duo but if anyone knows how to fix it please tell me or point me towards a cheap board thknkyou so much in advance
It's detecting a short when the CPU is powered, so either the CPU part of the board is damaged, or the CPU is, or both. Because you've told us absolutely nothing about the system I can't say what board to get as a replacement, because I've no idea what would be compatible until I know what CPU you're currently using (or better yet, the board you've damaged)
Try taking the mobo out of the case, place it on a piece of cardboard, and see if it powers on. If so then the mobo is fine and you can possibly fix the short. Assuming this is a custom build, try removing the i/o panel. This happen to me recently and sure enough, the i/o panel was the problem.
I prefer a phone book...that way you can put the board on the edge of the phonebook with the cards installed and their tabs hanging over the side. It is the only thing I use phonebooks for!
