I have cable internet with wireless networking. Two desktops, one laptop. My son keeps bugging me about wanting to play games online (Battlefield, etc.) with other players. I'm new to wireless networking and worried about a few things.

My son's computer is hooked up to the router. The main computer has a wireless USB adapter. I have not done anything to set up file sharing between these computers. If he's playing games online, can others (potential hackers) access the main computer through the router? If so, how can I prevent this (any software?)??

How great are the risks of allowing him to play these games online? What, if any, problems will I face with Gamespy software?

As long as you have a virus protection software you are all good, the only thing you should be worried about is someone jumping on your wireless connection, but you can prevent this through your wireless router configurations such as "WEP".

GameSpy is just another program to play with other players online...through gamespy. I never install GameSpy myself since I can still play online anyway. It may serve a purpose for some but for me its useless. You can install and uninstall if you choose not to like it (GameSpy).
