The retail cart comes with the memory expansion.

I think some expansions on some flash carts might do it but it's a slot 2 memory expansion - i.e. hardware cartridge (so no it can't be downloaded ....and you can't buy it separately ;)) - I have others seen with slot 2 stuff trying to get it to work without the retail package but I dunno if anyone has been successful. I have the R4 so I didn't have the expansion... I went and bought the retail cart and just used the memory expansion out of that.

Juni- that is good information. My head is a little swirly on keeping this all straight.

I saw this on another board:

"The Opera browser requires the use of both slots in some way, shape, or form. If you buy the original version, you need both the slot-1 cartridge and the provided slot-2 RAM pack. If you wish to run the rom of the browser, you need to launch it from a slot-1 device while also having a supported slot-2 device to act as RAM. You cannot launch it from a slot-2 device and still have it use that device's RAM. You will most likely need to apply a patch to the Opera rom in order to get it to recognize slot-2 RAM other than its official RAM pack, unless you use certain combinations of hardware.

If you have bought the actual cartridge and wish to merely use a slot-2 Supercard or M3 in place of the official RAM pack, you can try Opera RAM, though you will need the official slot-1 cartridge for it to work. It's more convenient than having to pak-swap anyway.

In any case, a good idea is to get a slot-1 device for ease of use and then get the slot-2 EZ-V 3in1 expansion pack. For about $20, this add on allows you to gain GBA compatibility, rumble support, and Opera browser support. It's worth checking out at least."

I think the 3n1 (here is one link)

    http://www.kickgaming.com/ezflash-3in1-expansion-pack-p-191.html

has the RAM, but don't know if (as the post implies) some sort of patch is needed.

I can't tell from the stupid Supercard site:

    http://eng.supercard.cn/products_scrumble.htm

what the heck their product even does and couldn't order it based on the info they provide.

    HTH.

Well 3in1 says "perfect compatibility with NDS Browser" so from that I'd expect it to work without any patching myself. It looks a good price as well imho ... If I didn't already have my retail cart I might consider getting that myself - still might if I see a decent price in the UK.

even if you have a slot 2 device you still need to patch the browser's rom but, there are pre-patched roms out there that will work without any patching with the slot 2 device.
