Your drive only sees this disc as 6x and up and you're trying to write at 4x which is causing your failed burn. You could work around this by setting your burn speed to 6x and probably have no issues. But in this case your firmware is 2 revisions behind... so try what attar said update your firmware.
imgburn for me useing verbs with a minimum burn speed of 6x changes itself on auto from 4x what i useally burn riteks at... i triple add, update firmware...
Hi under options there is 'preserve full pathnames' and 'recurse subdirectories' which one of those shoould be ticked if im just burning a movie onto a dvd disc. Also about my previous problems, when i put the disc in the burner in ImgBurn it says available write speeds: 6x 8x 12x 16x. Does that mean i cant burn at 4x?
All of Imgburns settings are best left at default unless you know what you are doing or unless someone tells you to change a setting. That is what it's telling you....the supported speeds of your media are 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x. The old school thought of slower is better is about out the window with all the quality drives with good firmware support on the market, especially when coupled with quality media from Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. Everything is progressing and it can actually be worse to burn at slow speeds than at high speeds as that is what the manufacturers design their products to do. The Ritek's should burn fine at 6X or 8X.
I think that the drive firmware is not allowing the disk to be burned at 4x. The last line of your initial post shows that it was maxing out at 6x - even though the speed was set at 4x. If you are burning a DVD Folder (VOB, etc): Click 'Mode' > 'Build' Click 'Output' > 'Device' Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK' Set burning speed .
So what speed would you recommend i should burn at? 6, 8, 12, or 16? The discs i ahve are maxell 16x (are these good by the way)?
Those RicohJpn coded Maxells are pretty decent discs, I would think you should be able to burn them at 12X or 16X easily....if that makes you squeamish, then try 8X.
Ok. And as far as compatibility goes, they should be good. Would they be more compatible than the dvd-r memorex that i have? Im jsut not to sure what dvd's would be better fro me to use? I want good quality as well as good compatibility..
