I have been backing up my DVDs with no problem for months now. Now I am getting this error message about laser calibration error. I can't get the drive to work for nothing. I am about to buy a new drive. Before I do, it there anybody out there that can help me fix this?

It might help if you told us what drive you have and when exactly you get the message.

I think the problem is as simple as it sounds; the laser is shot.

As Discmania said, it might help to know what drive you have. "DVD-R drive" isn't very helpful. When you take your car to the mechanic and asks what model it is do you answer "front wheel drive"????

It is a DVD-R/RAM internal drive. It can read and burn DVDs. The factory name is Matshita LF-311LD
