I've had for many years the software from 321 Studios, thus Express, Platinum and Rescue.
I've successfully used it for backing up my own purchases plus private home movies which of course are not CSS protected.
For some reason since using trial software of AnyDvd and Fab, the 321 programs are now non starting and are reporting all DVD media as "CSS Protected" thus will not continue to read and burn.
Rescue actually goes through the Rescue copy process okay, but then will not read and burn.
I know the later stuff available now does a better job in most cases, but the 321 Rescue program really works well with faulty disks and still backs up many of the movies that others are having troubles with, before this problem.
I've tried uninstalling either AnyDVD or FAB or both together to no avail.
This may be a tad academic but I'd really like to try and solve the problem to find out why?
For memory I'm fairly sure Express and Platinum used to back-up CSS protected material anyway, so why they are now flagging all DVD's as CSS Protected and won't go any further beats me.
Is there a chance that some form of conflict has ocurred from AnyDVD or FAB which has made a change in the Registry?

Hope this topic is in the right place, please advise if it is not!

If your using Windows XP, first try a SYSTEM RESTORE? Go back to a time before you installed AnyDVD and DVDFAB. When your 321 Studio software was working properly. If System Restore does not work, you will need to search for and uninstall all but one copy of Patin Couffin. Next search for and uninstall any files for DVDFAB, and AnyDVD. Afterwards, see if the 321 program works. If not, uninstall it as well, then reinstall a fresh copy of your 321 Studio software.

    Thanks for that, will try.
Only problem if needing to re-instal the original software is even though I have the original programs on disc, I'm fairly sure a unique code was needed from 321 as well to do such and they have long gone.

If the Windows XP System Restore doesn't do the trick. I recommend downloading and installing a fresh copy of DVDFAB Platinum. Here's the link. http://www.dvdfab.com/mlink/download.php?g=DVDFAB5
I use this software myself. It has more features and cost less than AnyDVD.
Before installing DVDFAB Platinum, make sure you remove all traces of any prior installations of 321 Studio software, AnyDVD, DVDFAB, and all copies of Patin-Couffin.
For some reason, I was not automatically noticied by email when you replied to this thread. Otherwise, I would of responded earlier. Good luck! Best Regards!

    Many thanks, QuickDraw.

I'm a little new to the in's and out's of some of the programs.
Have to go away on business in a day or so, will try to get back to the matter in hand and report back.

Disked, I think I need to be blunt. Why are you using that piece of crap???? That is the oldest DVD copy software out there. I am truely amazed it works on many movies since a hundred new copy protection tricks have been added since its demize. That went under 5-6 years ago. It only reads and burns at 1X and does not have many options. Because it burns at 1x the quality of the finished product is sometimes passible over newer apps. Defab, shrink fixVTS and imgburn combo gives you a better faster product for free. Why are you messing with that 123? If you have any problems post on the Shrink forum.
