I have an Oritron 4119. I have had it for about 3 months now and it has worked fine until about a week ago. It played any disc, whether it was dvd-r, vcd, or cd-r. Now it won't play some of my dvd-r. It played them before, but it won't play them now. I have two brands, memorex (which it plays fine), and office max which are the ones that don't work as of a week ago. I have read that the player resets itself when it's unplugged which it was, but I can't figure out why it won't play the generic dvd-r anymore. When I put the Office Max brand dvd-r in it goes into sequential scan, and then just stops. I've learned my lesson about buying generic disks, but can anyone think of anything I can do to make the ones I have play? Thanks.
dshaggy, Welcome to the forum. From what you have stated it sounds like a media compatibility problem w/ the Office Max brand dvd-r brand. You might d/l DVDinfoPro ( the free version has adverts ) and see who the real manuf. of the disks are. Compare the findings( real manuf) w/ an Office Max disk that your DVD Player can read. If the Memorex work for you then use that to record the movies and then view them on the DVD Player. See if you can borrow a blank Verbatim disk from a friend and record a movie to it then see if you can view it in the player. The Verbatim's are usually on sale at BestBuy at least once a month for $15.00 ( for 50). They are way better quality than the Memorex and at those prices are usually cheaper
Thanks Mike. I've been planning on just re-burning the ones that don't work on the memorex disks, but that will take some time. I'm just curious why the disks decided to stop working now, since they worked before. I'm thinking that perhaps the Memorex disks are just a little but thinner, so the drive can't pick them upor something. I thought I remember hearing a long time ago something about putting scotch tape on the non playing side to make it thicker or heavier to play. So Verbatim's are the disc you would recommmend? I'll give them a try. Memorex is pretty good too, right?
dshaggy Most DVD's are manuf'd w/o any Quality Control. Best bet on blank DVD's is to stay w/ Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Sony-MIJ(Made in Japan)Maxell as they do have quality control. Like I stated Memorex has no quality Control. You will see them referred to around here as Memosux but there is a small amount of people on this forum that have no problems w/ them. The only time I use them is when the Neighbor wants a DVD copied and he brings one over. I will not use them under any circumstances for any of my copies of the original. Forget putting the tape on it as that will make it off balance and copy worse
