    Hi,

My capture card is an ATI Wonder PRO and im using ATI multimedia Center 9.08 to watch TV and it works perfectly.
I have a couple of PAL VHS that contains family videos. I want to transfer them to pc as .avi files (or mpg but i prefer .avi).
I tried to convert them using ATI multimedia center. I tried setting it to all the PAL-B,D,H,I,M,N but they all gave me black and white picutres. What could the problem be? Is there a program you suggest me to use?
My VHS is multisystem, it accepts NTSC or PAL
I'm using RCA cables to connect VCR to PC.
I tried other NTSC cassettes and colors are showing so im only getting B&W with those PAL cassettes.
As far as I know, my father bought the video camera from the middle east if that helps to know which PAL are my cassettes.

please answer me ASAP as I may travel in 2 weeks and I want to do them before I travel as I want to bring them with me.

    Thank you

I believe your Capture Card is a NTSC Version not a Pal Version OR Try captureing it useing NTSC Capture settings and see if that works as Your VCR Might be Converting the Pal Signal to NTSC so it can Be Displayed on a NTSC TV Set.....

If it useing NTSC Capture settings doesn"t work then your Card is Probably a NTSC Card and can not properly read a Pal Video Signal which would result in a Black and White Picture....

    Good Luck

I have a dvd of a British rock group that is marked on the package ntsc and in clone it shows the files as that but it captures in bl/wh and won't play in a couple dvd standalones. What do you think?

If you have a DVD then why are you trying to Capture it??? It is Much easier to Just Rip the DVD to your Hard Drive and then Make a Copy of it than trying to Capture it...Plus it is very Difficult to Properly Capture from a DVD Player because Most Retail DVD"s are Copy protected which prevents you from Makeing a Good Capture of the DVD which Might be why you are Getting a B&W Image when trying to Capture the DVD.....

If you want to Copy a DVD just use a DVD ripping program and a DVD Backup program this way you get a Perfect Copy without any Signifigant quality Loss.....

    Good luck

I capture portions of chapters or titles to make "best of" music videos. My video stabilizer did not remove all the protection. Burned a backup then captured just fine. First time for this one and last. Thanks

Wouldn"t it be easier and better quality to simply edit the Titles and Chapters out of the DVD useing a Mpeg editor??

You can easilly Just Take any of the Files that are on the DVD and Cut out any Portions that you want to use on your DVD, Seems like it would be Much easier and produce much better quality than Trying to Capture Portions of a DVD....

I haven't had much success. Dealing with different resolutions, sync on encoding issues and converting files, and paths. I've tried and that's the way I would like to. Just not there yet.

Well there shouldn"t be any different Resolutions because Retail DVD"s use only one Resolution (720x480/576)....

Also you shouldn"t be Converting or encodeing at all Because VOB/Mpeg-2 is the Format used on DVD"s so the Clips that you Cut out of the DVD will allready be in the Correct Format for DVD so there is no need to convert or encode the Files....

You just need to use the Correct editing Software as Most editors will require you to re-encode the Files which may be why you were experienceing Problems but if you used a proper Native Mpeg-2/Vob editor then the Files would not need to be re-encoded and there would be absolutly no Quality Loss from the Original DVD.....

If you ever decide to try it this way and need any help then Let me Know and I"ll try to walk you through it....

    cheers

Well if you Just want to Do Basic Cut and paste editing then a Basic Native Mpeg/Vob editor like "Womble Mpeg2VCR" would work well but if you would Like more features and be able to add effects and transitions ect then the "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" is a good one.....

    Cheers
