    Hiya,

    Either:
    - you are not doing it right

    Or:
    - your XP is corrupt/incomplete/badly installed

    Or:
    - your XP is a system restore image that uses FAT32 as a filesystem instead of NTFS.

    Hope this helps...

There are several 3rd party solutions to password protect a folder, even on a FAT 32 system. Folder Guard is one I have heard of and I know there is a lot more.

As drchips said using EFS works, however that also depends on how you log on. If your sisters and you share a common logon, ie don't have separate accounts on the computer, they would still be able to access the files while logged on to that account. Since EFS works in the background and stores the decryption key in your profile if you have a common shared profile they will still have access.

Are you using a Windows NTFS File system ?

If you are there are lots of ways - as long as you log on with different user names and your sisters are not administrators, you can just save in your profile area in Documents and Settings - your "My Documents" should not be visible to them.

Encryption is great if you know what you are doing. I work for http://www.newmediasecurity.com and we write encryption. One of the main problems with EFS is recovery - if you forget your password then the administrator resets your password - you can find that you no longer have access to the encrypted data. There are ways around it with recovery users but it is hard work.

What level of security are you trying to use ?

Or you can 'hide' the folders so it won't even show up in the directory by using the 'view' options.

I use file and folder protectot 1.89
You can password them, or just hide them altogether.

    Works great
