I have been using Paypal for a while now for ebay transactions and i'm starting to realize what a rip-off it is. You have to have a premier account to accept debit/credit card payments and for every incoming payment they take out 2.9% + 0.30.

That may not seem like a lot but it is...if you sell something for $200 on ebay and get paid via paypal you just lost $6.10 of that $200. Not to mention the about $5 final value fee that ebay will take from you. Paypal can get away with taking this amount from you too because it has become such a standard and per there front page they have 86 million accounts.

And if i'm not mistaken Paypal is owned by ebay. So for every $200 auction on ebay that is paid with paypal(a whole hell of a lot per day), ebay makes about $6 from paypal, about $5 final value fee, and probably around a $2 insertion fee. That is $13 they are taking from someone who sold something for $200.

They are making a killing and nobody can do anything about it because if 1,000 people say hey we aren't going to use paypal or ebay anymore if you dont lower your fees well then they will laugh at them and say ok thats fine because the other 86 million people are still going to. ITS BULLS***

Well thats it for my rant about how ebay is robbing people with their auctions and with paypal.

I don't like all the fees and percentages taken out, but Jasper44, Ebay has to pay for all their expenses. They are providing a service. You can choose not to accept paypal payments, but you won't get as many bids, and you'll have to run to the bank to cash those checks/money orders. There's no sales tax, right? If so, that's a bonus.

Jasper44 you are right it is a rip off, but it is the only way I can buy things on the net because it takes it out of my bank account. I can't write checks or have a credit card because I am under 18. So even know the recevier of the money has to take a hit, it is a good deal for the sender of the money. even credit cards take fees out for thee recevier but not like paypal.

If you don't like Paypal, get your own merchant account, spend lots of money on a credit card terminal, pay some bank 2.9% to take credit cards, IF they will even set up an account for you. Most if not all do not like new online merchant accounts due to the high percentage of fraudulent cards.

So you pay some bank 2.9%, or Paypal 2.9%. What's the difference? Taking credit cards or Paypal increases your sales by quite a bit. Hey, it's just the cost of doing business. I am making plenty of profit on what I sell, so I ain't going to P&M over a couple of bucks.

OK, you seem like an eBay fan(you are using it), so I assume you want eBay to continue. But...you just don't want them making any money so they CAN continue. It makes no sense. I occasionally buy and sell on eBay and I have to say that I PREFER paypal. It's safe, it virtually minimizes the chances of a scam. Put eBay and paypal together and you got the closest thing you can have to complete sercurity online. And so what, your using their service to make 200 dollar, I assume you got that number from a real like personal experience, and you can't give up 10-15 lousy bucks? You try to sell that thing on your own w/o ebay and see how much you'd get for it. Factor in gas (at these prices) and time and you'd be losing way more.

What if everybody thought like you, it's like ppl who steal, I'm not calling you a theif or anything offensive, and say "such and such is a huge corpration and won't miss a few bucks". We'd be screwed if that was the mentality.
