    -Good
-Get Gigabytes GA-EP45T-DS3R instead because it's much better
    -try getting the G0 stepping
-Good brand but DDR2 is still bit faster than DDR3 because of it's low latency/timing
-nice HDD, i don't know but try get 32MB cache one, it doesn't really matter
-if you want the best coolin get Thermalright Ultra 120 with a good 120mm fan.

this is a good build it should last you quite a while

Case is fine. Motherboard is a bit naff, the one GTR recommends is a good bet.
There is no G0 stepping of the Q9550, you want E0, but it's very hard to find, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
Using the better motherboard you only need DDR2 memory.
Agreed on the thermalright CPU cooler too.

You still need a Graphics card, CD/DVD drive and power supply though.

ah! thank you for correcting me, i mean the E0 stepping for Q9550.

As for the GPU and PSU i recommend a HD4870 512MB but if you game on a 30" monitor then a 1GB version but thats most unlikely and Corsair HX520 or HX620 would be more than enough! CD/DVD drive i don't have a clue which one is better or not!

The HD4870 is a powerful graphics card. It depends on what sort of games will be played as to whether a monster like that is necessary...

yeah i recommend that card because if he can afford DDR3 and Q9550 then a HD4870 shouldn't be a problem

GTR35 when you say this is a good build, are you referring to my already built list ? or are you saying that its a good build after with your motherboard etc recommendations?

Undoubtedly after the recommendations, Intel boards are pretty poor.

yeah after my recommendation, and just like sammorris said, Intel boards are poor, the quality are not as good as Gigabytes. My friend has a intel board and seriously...it's bad...the capacitors are in the wrong places etc

I don't remember that, and in any case it's irrelevant as stacks of people at afterdawn have used them without incident.

so whats the best quad core cpu for .... video editing, all kinds of multimedia, graphic editing. im asking this becuase i was doing some research on the older p4 chips and i discovered that some were better in performance for multimedia usage and some scored higher in gaming. even if they were predecessor's. So, what would be my best CPU for anything else but gaming ? and id like to know whats the best cpu for gaming as well just for future reference. thx

the one that you've mentioned Q9550, it's one of the best price and performance ratio.

and DDR3 is not fast, rather get DDR2.

so i should aim for the fastest DDR2 out then ?
if so, what speed is it at ? 1800mhz ?

What are the key factors in the performance of mem chips anywway? :p

the latency rates ? stuff like that ?

The Q9550 is an excellent chip. The Q6600 is a lot cheaper though, and not that much slower at stock (about 30% faster), and it overclocks with a similar percentage gain, around 30-35% beyond stock speed. if you can get the E0 stepping Q9550 though, it's the same speed to start with but will overclock by as much as 45-50%.

I'd also avoid DDR3, the speed may be higher, but the latencies are huge, so it's really the same speed after all.
