My PC is running slowly lately. when i play a game the video scenes run fine but the audio is choppy and skips alot. If i were to upgrade my PSU would that help at all with my FPS in games and the problem i am having?. I have ran many virus programs and my computer is clean from that standpoint. Thank you
i have ran all anti spyware. anti root, anti virus, and malyware thype programs. umm specs are. well i dont remember off hand what do you want to know?
windows xp service pack 2, 400gb HD and 200gb free, 4gb of RAM, intel pentium 4 2.8ghz cpu, radeon hd 2400 series 8x agp graphic card, creative audigy soundcard with kx drivrs,430w max Antec PSU, and this is my mother board. Motherboard im using here. I'm running all this in this case A little history. It use to run fine but recently after i had to buy a new motherboard and video card i cant even alt tab out of my game anymore to desktop. If i do then the computer crashes to where i have to restart. I upgraded to 4 gb of memory from 2 as well. How do i see if all 4 sticks are correctly installed? i have all of my game video settings down and also my graphics cards setting down to try to increase my FPS. Also some time back i downloaded KX drivers for the sound card because my creative drivers were messing up. Now i can't get any drivers from creative to work with my card.
if 32bit xp then won't see 4gigs of ram. if problem started after new motherboard installed, did you do a fresh install of windows or just used installed windows from previous motherboard? is that a socket 478 or 775 cpu?
478 and i used the previous windows because i didnt want to lose any data and my pc didnt come with a hard copy of windows when i purchased it 8 years ago. it is 32 bit. so why wont i see 4gb of ram? just curious.\ Here is my graphics card I also changed this after i changed the motherboard. The motherboard i had was from the original computer. HP pavillion 750n.
Fragmented hard drive? The more you load the hard drive up the slower it becomes. So, if it's fragmented it's painful sometimes. I think the responses above may also be correct. Check if you have the latest definitions for Virus, spyware ect.. I use AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot and Malwarebyres. Spybot always seems to be beta the way it crashes but does an excellent job. BTW, a new power supply will not cause issues you're having. Jeff
because 32bit windows whether xp or vista can only read about 3.25-3.5gigs of ram, just the way it is programed. the problem you are having is most likely caused by not re-installing windows on new motherboard & videocard. refurbished computer 8yrs ago?
yea i def. know about all the virus, spyware, and malware programs. Between me, my brother, and my cousins. We have that to an art. So i am 99% sure that it not that causing this. The computer was brand new 2001 when i bought it. its the one i stated above in my post. How can i reinstall windows without a disk? i have a repiar disk that i created. If i buy a new windows disk will it interfere with anything that my software reads as far as the new windows access code? Will this computer hold windows 7? im thinking about buying this anyways. What happens with the computer when i dont reinstall wow on the motherboard?
New motherboard may have different north/south bridge. Old drivers from a previous motherboard will cause issues including no booting whatsoever.
Do you have a new motherboard? Did you at least use sysprep if you do. There is no way of knowing what you've done. 1. Is it a new motherboard? 2. Did you back-up it up? 3. Did you use sysprep if you did. 4. Is the hard drive fragmented? 5. Do you know what you're doing?
yes it was a new motherboard. almost 8months - 1yr old I didnt back it up I didnt use sysprep as i don't know what that is It is fragmented I thought i knew but i had no choice. my old motherbord took a shit.
that is not a brand new board as haven't made those for at least 2yrs. what do you mean "dont reinstall wow on the motherboard?"? win7 will problaby run alright but upto a point on your system. check ms site for program that checks to see if win7 is compatible with your system.
ah yes it is a refurbed motherboard. i thought you meant was the board that crashed refurbed to be used again. umm i mant if i don't reinstall windows like you had said.
you need to reinstall windows from scratch so how you get a windows disk is your problem. save your data onto cd\dvd disk, flash drives or another hd then wipe out current windows & reload.
Before you do anything, google for a key recovery tool for XP and Office if you have that. Someone has made a key recovery tool that will allow you to know and save your key used to activate your OS. That is your license. You can borrow a disk from anyone but use your own key during the install. Without that key you are toast! You can make a copy of the XP disk and put the key on the disk. Be sure to make sure your 2s and Zs, Os and 0s, gs and 6s look different. A few yrs from now those kinds of issues will kill you. That is how I found out about the recovery key. I couldn't read my own writing which I thought was crystal clear. You would be surprised how impossible that can be. It was the 6 that I did not realize was a G that was my problem.
