Yeah, give us some more info so that we can help you. What messages are you getting? Where does it crap out? I myself have been fixing computers for several years and just a few months ago had a problem where I could not reinstall xp for the life of me. Kept getting different error messages at different points of the installation. In the end I found the memory was bad. So check the memory too.
when i put the xp disc in it boots ok starts to install gets to were it says installing devices goes to were it says 34 mins remaining then thats it. i have installed xp on a hard drive on a different pc works fine plug it into my pc get a message saying a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. i have tried 3 hard drives different ram different xp discs floppy boot discs reseting bios but still no joy.
xp can give you lots of grief if you install it on a hard drive in one machine and then take that hard drive out and put it in another machine. Not recommended. I would format the drive in the machine you want it in and then do a clean installation. Good Luck.
OK and you are definitely formating the drive like so... 1. Insert XP disc and boot from it on startup.... 2. Let setup load... 3. Press enter 4. Press F8 5. See if Setup detects a current install, if it does then... 6. Press ESC key to go to partition view... 7. Press D for delete 8. Press ENTER to make sure... 9. Press L to make sure again... 10. Press ENTER to format drive 11. Select QUICK Format 12. Let setup continue and just follow the on screen instructions When you hook the drive up to another PC and do an install then hook it back up to the original PC it gets that error... That is most probably that the motherboard resorces are differant to the original PC.... If you follow the above steps and it still stops their then it could be the CPU or motherboard... Make sure you dont have any other external devices connected just in case (eg. Printers, external Hard drives etc...)
i either format like you say or i put in a floppy drive get a: then format that way, ihave also done a wipedrv then reset the partions but still cant reinstall which ever way i do it
Like i say it could be a hardware problem? Maybe the CPU or Motherboard.... Also remember to not have any other external devices plugged in just in case...
looks like i will have to invest in another board & processor coz i have un plugged everything apart from 1 hard drive floppy drive cd drive mouse & keyboared
you might have a ram problem as ran into that problem with a customer's xp. used a pencil erase to clean the oxidation off the contacts, reseated the ram & it worked.
