    Hey,
Ok, I had to reformat my computer becuase I had kept getting the blue screen of death and no matter what I tried (safe modes, ect.) I could not get into my PC (not even past Windows boot screen. So anyways, ever since I had refomatted my computer, it has beem so dam slow. It even takes about 20 seconds to load if I scroll down a page. Now my system specs are not great at all but I had this computer running very decently before. I mean no (lagg) if you want to call it, what-so-ever. This is not just for internet btw, my whole computer.

    Here are my specs:

    Rogers Hi-Speed Cable
    256MB RAM
    60GB HDD
    1800+ AMD Athlon XP

Many of you might think its becuase of my specs but this computer was very fast before, I mean it lol. I just don't know what the problem could be because generally if you reformat, it frees all space from hard drive and completly re-installs a fresh copy of Windows XP making you computer faster. Does anyone know my problem and how I can fix it?

    Thanks alot.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have an extra HD around but my dad has a computer and I could possibly take his out. Would that affect his computer after I put it back in? As the memory, I could also take his if it is the same kind. I will try both, and get back to you guys.

    Thanks.

Unless your computer are idntical the Hard drive isnt going to help unless he don't mind if you format his hard drive and reload it..

Hey you guys, Can I ask you something? My computer is running perfectly two months before. I have a HP w/ 160GB of HD space 127GB left,XP Standard Edition,702 of 1GB of DDR RAM left. One day,for some stupid reason, I went to my system configuration and mess with it.I deleted a file. I thought everything was fine after turning on my system on the next morning. It load to the password screen and an error message pop up saying somthing(I can't remember) I got it to load but it wasn't like how I left it. It was like when you create an account for another user. Plain and dumb. I thought I could customize it again to how I like it. But damn I was wrong. Nothing load. Icons,Start options, I mean nothing. It just freeze. After restarting it, the password screen won't even came up but instead another error. This time when I click "OK", the cycle start all over again (resart, load, error). Now it won't even boot. I can't do anything. I plug it in, turn on the power, nothing show up. The monitor just said, "Monitor is in power saving mode, activate from PC". I don't know what to do anymore. I just want to die. These last few weeks have been depressing to me. I got fired from work, my bank account is near to becoming bankrupt. Life is so horrible. Bad things happen to good people.

loveya, does the pc power up at all?

Yes, everything seem fine except the fact that it doesn't boot. I think I'm correct about the "boot" thing because the monitor which is connected to the PC said something like, "Monitor is in power saving mode, activate from PC". Now, my com. doesn't do anything. The only thing I notice diff. is the light where the button to turn on the Pc is Orange. It used to be green. I had thought of bringing to the "geeksquad" thing but I'm broke right now.Even if they can fix it,it probablely needs aditional parts. Not to mention the ride. Now I'm staying at my mom & dad place using their 1999 PC to log on hoping for help. It's kinda great, sitting around all day. :6

    Hi Loveya,
First let me say I am sorry to hear about your job and everything and I wish you the best.

Now unplug your computer then hook up only the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Unplug anything else you might have pluged in and make sure all those other connections are firmly plugged in. Now plug your PC back in and turn it on.

Let us know exactly what happens... Listen for beep's also and count them :) Do you hear any of the fans, anything will help us to help you better. The monitor is basically saying right now that your PC isn't doing anything..

Let us know so we can help you out

Everything is firmly and is correctly pluged. Yes, all connections that you advise are pluged. The fans work. HD works make noise.Floppy Drive is "dead". The lights in the front of the pc(where the power button is) which usually is green now is orange when turned on.

Well this could be a number of things?

Memory - If you happen to have some extra memory laying around or can borrow a stick from another PC then try switching out the memory and see what happens.

Video Card - Make sure it is seated in its slot all the way and same as memory

Power supply - May have to replace

Processor - well lets just hope it isn't that

You should try all of those in that order because Memory would be the easiest fix, and so on...

    Good luck ;-)

the memory is the ram, the video card is what the monitor plugs into unless the videocard is integrated in the motherboard than can't reseat the card. on the motherboard are can shaped objects that have silver flat tops & colored sides, those are capacitors. are all the capacitors tops flat or are any domed??
