Built my own pc some years ago, and decided time is to re-build, gradually over some time. My present pc consits of an msi 925x motherboard, intel 3.4ghz processor, 6600gt graphics card, 2.5gb of memory and 180gb hardrive with dvd rw and dvd rom. As mentioned it was a few years since the build, and I had no previous knowledge, so with times moved on so much, Im a little lost with all the new parts etc. My plan was to first purchse the new motherboard and processor, and use the existing parts. What would be the best board and processor for around the £150-£200 range? Next would be the graphics card, Im not a hardcore gamer on the pc, more for film watching etc with the pc hooked up to an 32" HD tele. Something that will allow game playing and maximise the tv useage is what id be looking for...any suggestions? I have the PS3 so blu ray drive not essential, also have sky+ seperately, so doubt a tv card would be beneficial. Hardrive I will be purchasing a 500GB, and plan to use this just for storing all my music and films etc, so plan on keeping the existing harddrive which has windows and all my programmes etc presume this will work? Memory I realise will have to be purchased at the time of the motherboard purchase, so sure I can pick this up with ease. Any assistance and advice be greatly appreciated.......and any further info which may assist, or additional items needed, all welcomed Cheers Scott
You're going to need to state what your current case and power supply are. 95% of cases they need to be upgraded as well. This is really an entire new system build.
The case is in the following link and my preference would be to keep as it fits in pretty well with look of the room and entertainment stand. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125291 The power supply Im not to sure about. It has been changed from the one provided, but was done by a computer tech, presuming similar spec to the one mentioned with the case. I do also have a spare one kicking about, again Im sure its similar, with 20+4pin, sata connectors and PCI-e. If you require the specific model etc, I can find out.
Assuming that the specs are true about the case supporting full ATX boards, something like this combination: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Giga...I-E-(x16)-DDR2-1200-1066-800-SATA-II-RAID-ATX http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Inte...3-GHz-1066MHz-3MB-Cache-11x-Multiplier-Retail You will probably need new RAM: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=1018761 and I would recommend a new PSU unless you can give the specific model - most PSU brands out there are terrible. For low-midrange gaming and TV watching, I'd recommend one of these cards (pick the best you can afford) http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512M...-GPU-600MHz-320-Cores-2x-Dual-Link-DVI-I-HDTV http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512Mb-Sapphire-HD-4670-DDR3 Keeping the new HDD will preserve your data, but you may have to reinstall windows - it may not simply be a case of booting up as before with new hardware due to the driver changes.
