i have a abit kt7a raid 1.3 with 512mb and a duron 900 i replaced the cpu with a athlon 2400 but when i switched on the light stayed on and the monitor stayed blank - i left i for about a minute but nothing i then replaced the old duron 900 and it worked but very very slowly. cpu usage was nearly 100% for a long time and the lights stayed on any ideas please i have checked that the processor is compatible. i have flashed the latest BIOS i know this is a bit like some other threads but not exactly the same pete
sorry for the misleading info above my son has just informed me that the pc was very slow before i replaced the cpu. i have traced this to a faulty memory slot on themb. i am now running ok with my old duron 900 but the new athlon 2400 still does not boot up - there are no beeps pete
I don't think your mobo supports the XP2400. If it doesn't make post, it means it doesn't recognize the cpu, meaning the cpu's stepping is higher than the mobo knows. Solution, get new mobo.
Have a look at the specifications for the motherboard you say you have , here :- http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/techspec.php?categories=1&model=88 [bold]Processor - AMD Socket A Duron (100MHz FSB) up to 950MHz - AMD Socket A Athlon (100/133MHz FSB) up to 1.4GHz[/bold] That speaks for itself !
