I went and bought a Swann PCI TV Tuner Card, it has video in, s-video, etc etc, so I *assumed* I could play .avi's with the program and use the remote...

I don't know if the remote's going to work, since there are no clear play/pause/rew/fwd buttons... But before that - I can't get the program to even play .avi's... Or any other file for that matter... Actually watching movies is ok, because I have DivX... I just want something I can use the remote with.

Can I try a different program? What do I do? I've opened it now, so I can't return it.

    Cheers

I don"t know what you think a TV Tuner Card is For but it has absolutly nothing to do with Playing AVI files....

The TV Tuner Card is used for recording TV Shows to your PC and for watching TV not For Playing back Video files....

If you Just wanted a Remote controll that you can use to Controll your PC with Like to Watch AVI files and to Fast Forware and rewind them ect then you should check out something like the "ATI Remote Wonder" which is a Remote Controll that you can use to operate your Mouse and you can Program the Buttons to do pretty much anything you can do with your Mouse and Keyboard.....

These remotes are only about $30 on ebay and they work Pretty Good and they are RF so you don"t even have to be in the same room as your PC for the Remote to work.....

If you have to use for the TV Tuner Card then you should return it and say it didn"t work or something....

    Cheers

you have to set the bios with the PCI on wake-up mode or something like that or the remote won't work. It sound like the card that I use, it has a remote but I haven't used it yet just back up my VHS to DVD with it and that's All Ive done so far. It's a cheapy just pad 50 bucks for it but it's great for what I use it for.

As Minion stated, a tv tuner is not intended as a media player like say Windows Media Player. It is designed to play/record the signal sent through the coaxial/s-video/component connections only. It would play an avi file if say you burned it to a disc and connected your dvd player to your tv tuner(provided your dvd player plays avi files). Same with the remote, it will only control the features of the tuner card. I'm not sure where you bought it, but almost every store I have purchased something at will allow a return even if the item is opened, with the exception of software.
