Hi! I need a guide on how to either add Permanent subtitles to an avi, when converting it from DVD to avi. Or a guide on how to add permanent Subs to an avi that's already converted, without too much quality loss though?

I've already tried this one, but It's very old, there's quality loss and the final size is difficult to predict.

    Anybody got a decent guide?

    Will be greatly appreciated!

All the one click type apps (AutoGK, FairUse Wizard, StaxRip, etc.) should support hard subs. If you do things manually then it should be a simple matter of adding vobsub("whatever.idx") to your AVISynth script.

I'm currently using SimpleDivX, it's step by step, got a lot of great features, but unfortunately it doesn't support hardcoded subs.
I want my movies to be 640x272, so the program's got to have the cropping function.
Which App would you recommend Celtic_d?

(Btw. are you the guy behind, Celtic_druid's Xvid codec?)

SimpleDivX. That is just an mencoder frontend though right? mencoder definatly supports hardsubbing. it doesn't however support DivX other than opendivx and I guess divx3 aka MS MPEG-4 V3.

I compile XviD. The codec itself isn't mine, I just compile it.

I tried StaxRip and I must admit, it's quite alright mate! I've already made my first Xvid backup, with hardcoded subs, nice tool! Thank's for the suggestions...

Have been wondering for some time if it really were you, Celtic_druid (that's cool).
Thanks for your help, my problem is solved ;)
