A few days ago I purchased a Philips 642 DVD Player. So far it has played all I have put in it. However, some of the Divx/Xvid (burned on CD-R) are way to narrow on the television screen. Much narrower than letter box. I went into the Philips menu and tried to change the aspect ratio and nothing changed. I then tried some DVDs, still no change at all using the menu. I took the Divx/Xvid and the DVDs to the computer and tried changing the aspect ratio using VLC Media player and all changed to what I called for. I called Philips and they didn't think anything was wrong with the player. I disagree. I can't think of any settings that I may have overlooked that would deny me to change the aspect ratio as it states in the manual. What are your thoughts?....Should I return the player? thanks
Yeah. I'd return it and get a non ESS based player. You can get some decent MTK based ones for not much more.
