Philips DVD+RW DVD8631

Just got off the chat line with Dell Support for over an hour. Burner would not recognize any blank discs, only previously burned ones. They determined there was a problem with the burner (no kidding), if there wasn't a problem, I wouldn't have contacted them. This is from a Dimension 4700, less than 2 mos. old. They wanted to replace it with the same junk that is in there now. I told them I didn't want another Philips, and asked how many times they would replace that one and send a tech out to install it before they gave me what I wanted (NEC). Needless to say, they finally came around and are sending me the NEC. It pays to be persistent. Don't give in, they will come around, you just have to show them that it's in their best interest not to waste their money, and your time.
