    Hi... My Name is Rafael, From Portugal...

    I want to adquire a DVD Recorder for my Living Room to Substitute my 15-Year Old Sanyo VCR, but i have a dought. Witch is better? The Philips DVDR77 or DVDR80?

    I Read the Specifications of both recorders and the difference i saw is:

    Video Performance:
    DA Converter -> 10bit 54Mhz (DVDR80 is 10Bit 27Mhz)
    AD Converter -> 9Bit, 27Mhz (DVDR80 is 9bit)

    Audio Performance:
    DA Converter -> 24bit 192Khz (DVDR80 is 24Bit)
    AD Converter -> 24Bit 96khz (DVDR80 is 16Bit)
    Signal / Noise -> 105db (DVDR80 is 95db)
    Dynamic Range -> 90db (DVDR80 is 85db)
    Crosstalk -> 105db (DVDR80 is 95db)
    Distortion / Noise -> 90db (DVDR80 is 85db)

    the dvdr80 only records onto +r/+rw disc's
    and is not compatible with dvd-a/sacd/cd/mp3/wma/jpeg/highmat/svcd/divx and it has basic editing and slow menu navigation.

    are you sure about dvdr77 i never seen that 1 only the 70 and 75 but the 70 is a good 1 i have 1 myself.

    Unfortunely, in Portugal the DVDR80 is not sold in Portugal, because the Guide+ Function...
    It really exists the DVDR77 Model... You can this this Webpage from Philips (http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=DVDR77/00&scy=&slg=ENG&tmplt=&SearchTxt=DVDR77&grp=&cat=&sct=)

    The DVD77 can Read MP3 CD, Jpeg Photos and Sacd..

    yes just looked at it never seen it before
    but the best way to go is to know what you want it to do but like i said i have the 70 and thats a good machine.

    but you say the 77 play mpe/jpeg/sacd so id say that was better than the 80.
