Hi, For years now i have been converting AVI files (various codecs) into DVD format and then burning to a DVD-R and watching them on my DVD players, in fact various DVD players. Somoene yesterday todl me that I can burn the AVI file straight to DVD as a DATA and watch it without having to go through 2 hours of converting? However, Ive just tried it and burnt my XVid AVI file to a DVD-R and when you insert it the menu appears on teh screen but it doesnt show that there are any files on the DVD? Can someone please tellme what im doing wrong? cheers guys
If the standalone DVD player is 'DivX' certified, it should play data files (DivX or XviD) on CD or DVD. Example would be, 'myfile.avi' burned as data on the disk, should be listed on the player menu screen after the disk is inserted.
Ok, thats great if i wanted to use the Xvid or Divx codec, but what wabout if i wanted to use MPEG2 etc. I know my player doesnt support DIvx you see, hence the reason im tryign to find a work-around to converting everything before im able to burn a DVD (VOB's)
YEs but you end up with VOB files not an AVI with mpeg2 codec? Or am i missing something here? I know i can watch a DVD but i wanted to know if i could watch an AVI file burnt as data onto a DVD but encoded with mpeg2 codec. if that makes sense. Anyway, it appears my set top dvd player doesnt support divx so guess il.l have to carry on converting until i get a set top that supports it. P.S Has anyone ever heard of way to watch PC content on their TV using wireless scart or somehting?
