My Sony Vaio laptop 2.66mhz 512 ram 60 gb hdd, Sony dvd rw dw-u50a always seems to be in PIO mode on secondary master. I can get it too udma2 by uninstalling device then rebooting but will lose it again on subsequent boot. Seems to me the ali chipset or whatever has difficulty remembering that I've changed the settings. Noticeably the difference in PIO mode is about another Millenium when converting avi to dvd. Sorry, the question is can I "force udma2" and more importantly will it stay that way. Latest firmware is in drive "d" version. Ol Hectar PS> COuld it be a ubiquitous win xp issue SP1 - all up to date. Moreso it's a noticeable when I'm having problems with the drive reading "cyclic errors or should I say not reading them. I can see the logic of it as secondary master as the primary master hdd is udma 5 and thus if the dvd rw were to share the same ide it would slow the hdd down. Any thoughts y'all?
Check your motherboard -- seems like the CMOS cant remember its settings... battery perhaps? Oh and... laptop? I thought ALI only made desktop chipsets?_X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD2500+ Samsung 1024MB, PC2700 360GB [3x120GB, 7200, 8MB] MSI Starforce, GeForce4 Ti4400 128MB Rules and Policies: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487 AFTERDAWN IRC: irc.emule-project.net, #ad_buddies COME SAY HI![/small]
