Just upgraded my Pioneer 1.07D to Firmware version: 1.18 as it supports the following. [bold]Change Log[/bold] DVD-R Writability Improvement DVD+R Writability Improvement DVD-RAM Playability Improvement CD Playability Improvement DVD+R DL DoubleLayer Playback Implemented (NOT Record) Until they bring out a hacked firmware for Revision 1.18 which supports all of the above, makes it region free forever, can write x8 on x4 media(I use Ritek), can write x4 on dvd-RW media and supports the faster ripping speeds from 2x up to 12x as in revision 1.16 I will sit and wait.. Another point if the drive can read and playback DVD+R DL DoubleLayer media, then I can't see why a hacked firmware can't be released to allow DL DoubleLayer Recording @ x2.4 speed. A similar firmware hack came out on the NEC. Greetz Jiggy
Almost all dvd players can read DL media. Most longer movies out these days are DL. The one firmware hack I know of at this time that makes a single layer drive burn DL media has killed about 50% of the drives it was installed on. Only time will tell if more firmware hacks will come out for DL burning. I know Pioneer used a 106 like I have to burn DL media with a firmware upgrade, but they never allowed it to be downloaded. [bold]cheers for the DL info[/bold] [bold]Is there a firmware hack out for the new firmware release for the Pioneer 107D, being 1.18 which, allows all the features of the 1.16 hack but still retains the fixes in the new revision[/bold] ...Jiggy...
The hacked firmware number versions do not have to match the OEM numbers. I still am running version 1.07 on my 106D which is much lower than the latest OEM firmware. But my hacked firmware lets my drive out perform the latest OEM several times over. Read the specs on the latest hacked firmware for your 107 and see if it meets all your requirements. I think it will plus it unlocks the ripping speed from around 2.4x up to about 12x on single layer dvd's. Quite a boost in performance. Jerry
