Ok, sorry if this has been posted before, if it has just post the link, but i just got this drive today. Installed fine, WinXP sees it fine, it'll play cd's and dvd movies, etc.... Whenever i try and burn with it ( the version of nero that came with it, and nero 6 ) it hangs up at the burn screen. I have the latest firmware for it also.

No worries broly, welcome to afterdawn!
Did you check your device drivers to see if you are in PIO or DMA mode? Use DMA.
Did you already have Nero on your computer before you used the Pioneer installation disc?
Can you tell me what settings in Nero you are using? (the more details the better!)
What type and brand of blank media are you using?
What error message are you getting when the burn fails? (no need to send the Nero log)
I have the same burner but I did not use the installation disc, I had my DVD programs established so I didn't need the programs on the disc.

I noticed on the installation disc it says Nero, Nero Express, and Nero tool kit- is express the only option you have or are there others.
I have express so Im playing with it as we talk. I don't use it much so be patient.
Sounds like you know computers, but Did you set the master/slave jumper on your Pioneer?
Also could you tell me what steps with express you use to open it, get your video files into it and get to the burn screen? I just want to make sure Im looking at the same thing you are.

start-ahead nero - nero express - dvd - data dvd - add - select the files - finished - next - uncheck multisession - more - check finalize - click burn - turn off the comp and begin to curse : )

    thx again.

Well the only problem Im having is a lack of proper video files to experiment with. What is your source of video files?
I don't care for this method and would recommend the demoversion download, package 1, from Nero:
    http://www.nero.com/us/neroue-prog.php
I have to get some files made up so I'll be back in a bit.

Well that is going to change a few things.
Im going to refer you to a previous response that Yuriv made in a post on Dec 23 concerning Mpeg to DVD.
If your files are compatible, I would open express and then click on the Nero icon at the bottom, and open Nero Burning ROM. Then follow the guide at: http://dvdshrink.info/ to burn your disc.
    Good luck,
    Frank

Didnt find any info that would help on dvdshrink.info. Also, whats the difference between the regular iso, and udf? And do i have to burn using the dvd video? I dont want to play them on stand alone players, just using the dvd to back them up.

Another quick question. How long does it take nero to " check discs " ? I'm trying to burn .mpg's as data, thats about 4.4 gigs.
