I just purchased a Sony VAIO with a Pioneer DVR-106D burner installed. When I burn a DVD it plays fine on the DVD drive in the computer, but will not play on any other DVD players.
Anyone here of this before? Any ideas?

    Hiya davewtop,

we need more info than that..

What burning software are you using?
There are guides available on the site for MOST burning programs.

    Have Fun...

drchips: I am using a trial version of DVD X-Copy from 321 Studios. I heard it is pretty good, but am open to suggestions. This is all new to me.

    davewtop,

    Aha!

Let's tackle this problem from the results end of the equation.

The resultant DVD will play on pc, but not on ANY standalone.... Right?

Assuming you have tried a number of standalones, and those standalones support the format of disk you are using (DVD-R or DVD+R).

My suggestion to track the problem part down is:

Use DVD-R (most widely compatible format, it has been around on the market for longer)

Use RecordNow Max for burning, trial version from:

Try the above, then come back to me...

    Have Fun...

Sometimes it's the obvious things you miss. I simply turned off my firewall and voila, it works! Hope this helps someone else along the way...

    Huh!!!!!

    that was pure coincidence...

firewall has NOWT to do with burning etc..

I run LOADS of security-biased software on the pc I burn on (Adaware 6 Pro, AdsGone, RealTime CookieCleaner, Kerio Personal Firewall, Norton AV2004, HiJackThis) and I have never seen a firewall interfere like that.

    Something else was responsible...

Glad you got something working though.

    Good Luck.
