Hey guys I'd really appreciate some help with my new burner if you can spare the time. My main problem is that I can't burn with it. I have used Nero and DVD Decrypt to no avail. When I try to write to medium, (Sofar I've tried Laser, Sony and Ricoh) it gives me an error. (Nero gives a "Power Calibration Error" while DVDDecrypt gives some nice numbers and garble) I am using the latest firmware version as recommended by the pioneer website (V1.07), and ASPI layer version 4.71.2. My second problem is that when I try to view a CD or DVD in windows explorer it either freezes or comes up with a blank window. Can anyone help me????
No I've never burned or played a DVD with it. Actually I'd never tried to play a DVD with it, so I just did and WinDvd gave an error: "no valid drive/disc found"This is strange because DVDDecrypt will detect blank media and give all the specs on it. System Specs are: XP Professional Service Pack 1, P4 1.6GHz, 256 MB of Ram... anything else you need to know? Once again I am eternally grateful for any help- this burner is looking like a very expensive door stop... Thanks
Do you have it hooked up to the 2nd IDE channel as Master? When you look in Device Manager is it properly listed and identified? Will it act like a normal CD-Rom drive and play audio CD's? What version of Nero are you using?
JohnB: I also have a Pioneer DVR-106D. I have used it play DVDs. Plays well. I am still having so many problems with this device and with the DVD backup software in current use to definitize any recommendatory statement to you. My 106D is an external device, which may make any 1-to-1 comparisons between our systems subject to question. Also, I now have a Dell 8300 Series PC, which has top-of-the-line credentials. Alas, with all of that, I am still have serious woes. If you have used XCopy Xpress successfully. Or if you know anyone who knows how to make CANCEL effective. please advise me. . . . Cheers, wlloyd
Yes its the only device on the 2nd IDE Chanel and it is the master. Windows picks it up correctly as a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D. And it wont act as a normal CD-Rom. Wont pick any CD up at all. Any Ideas? Thanks
Sounds like XP is not recognising it properly.... Double check the IDE connection.... Uninstall the Pioneer in device manager and let windows recognise it again on power up and see if it helps....... You can also try uninstalling the Secondary IDE controller aswell........reboot to see if it picks it up....... Also are UPTO DATE with XP updates.......?
What would I be looking fow with the IDE Cable? It's plugged in right with the red side of the ribbon on the correct site etc. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Burner and the Secondary IDE Chanel as suggested but it still dosnt pick anything up. I have all the latest XP updates downloated directly from windows update. Could it be a problem with the firmware??

Hi j0hnb, I think there is now a 1.08 firmware for the 106D drive. Also, by chance could the IDE cable be an older 40 wire cable and not the newer 80 wire. Just something else to check. I flashed my Memorex drive to read as a true Pioneer 106D. It works great. No problems yet. As Mystice stated, possible bad drive. Jerry
Also note that with Nero installed on XP there is no reason to install any ASPI layers as Nero's should work just fine. As a test if you pop it in another computer that might help determine if the drive is bad.
