I just had my PIONEER ship from ebay. It didn't come with any drivers, cd--etc., except a software.

So when my DEVICE MANAGER detects it, it detects it as HDC--and it can't recongize it! I tried DL-ing drivers on www.pioneerselectronics.com, but to no avail--(i didn't know which one to dl anyways -_-).

I need help! Please someone take a moment to reply.

What OS are you using. It should be detected correctly by the system. something sound wrong. Contact the person you got the drive from right away.

OK, 15 % for return but what about a defective exchange ??? there is always bad feedback threat also. I would delete the device from your hardware list and reboot see if it detects the drive correctly then. Also make sure it is the only drive on the ide chain.

Yeah yer right, I shouldn't be complaining regarding the return fee.

I did delete the device manager--reboot it, and Windows never detected it thereafter.

Alas, i'm but a mere amatuer regarding these here parts. By installing it--I just practically took off the cables from my previous cd-drive, and put my Pioneer therein. The pin is set on Master.
And how do I make sure it is the only drive on the ide chain?

ok, you should have 1 ide channels on your mother board. so you could have a total of 4 drives. make sure if you that the dvd is only thing on one of the cables. in other words. your main harddrive on 1 cable. and dvd only on the second cable. After that I would ask them if they can exchange it for no charge , even if you have to pay shipping to them. If all else fails force the neg feed back had on ebay, also you can report them to ebay. if the drive is dead , that is not what you ordered.

Thanks man, I appreciate your help and time.

It is the only one on the IDE cable. Because my previous drive was connected to that, so nothing has change.

So the only conclusion--it's a dud.

O' well. Don't buy from Eystor on ebay, people. I won't anytime soon. |8(

One other thing you might want to check. Make sure the IDE connector cable (flat ribbon) is 80 wire not the older 40 wire. That drive being so new it may require the 80 wire cable. Some of the older drives would work on either.

I had the same problem, but put the drive on a single ide cable and it worked. Why is this the case?
