I have had my DVR-106D for about 1 year. When I bought this drive it came with firmware revision 1.05. I have yet to have a bad burn. Would there be any benifit for me to flash the firmware to 1.07 or even RPC1 with already such great luck?
It depends if you are suffering from slow rip speeds. if you are not, or use a seperate DVD ROM to rip the disc, then there isnt any real benefit if it works great for you. I wasnt aware the DVR106 had been out for a year, i believe it was only released within the last 6 months, cant remember the date though.
Sorry my data was a little off, actual date August 2003. I use a seperate DVD-ROM drive to do the ripping.
It would be better to mess with your firmware on the DVD ROM if you wish to have region free (RPC 1) features. Otherwise, my advice is, dont fix it if it aint broken
I have tried to find a way to update my DVD-ROM drive but I have failed. I have a BDV 108A. I have seen a RPC1 for this drive but I haven't found a flashing program to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Also, what are the chances that I would actually need to have this drive to be region free?
To be honest, quite slim unless you get imported DVD's a lot. I have only had to use the RPC 1 feature twice in over 1,000 back-ups.
I don't believe that I will screw with a good thing. I don't watch any DVD movies that aren't from Best Buy or Blockbuster. So I would say my chances are 0.
