Hi, recently just starting making backups of my dvds, and had no problems on dvd-r media, but i made a backup of 2 fast 2 furious, but had the problem of skipping very slighty or sligh pixelation for a second, and it happens a few times in the film, but if i search (backwards) to view the bit again that skipped, it wont skip again!? but another part of the film will skip that didnt before! hope thats clear...? so tried again, and still have same probs, also american pie 1 i had the same problems! my writer is DRW 1004IM made by BTC, and i burn at 4x using dvd x copy xpress, and ive tried various media...i used the red datawrite discs, they were fine except the 2f2f films. now im using Grade A Media orange discs. Sorry for writing soooo much but i guess the more details = more help? hope you can all help me!!! Thanks Mark
The discs are probably the problem - try another brand. Are the brand you are using Ritek? Also be sure to keep the disc surface clean as specks of dust can cause similar problems. You can clean the surface with soft tissue (don't use any liquid cleaner). Finally try using DVD Shrink instead - Xpress is known to sometimes cause temporary pixelation where vobs are joined together.
the discs are orange 'Grade A Media' - Ritek Orange (Overprint) i was told they are very very good? And ive just bought a spindle of 25, so dont want all of my films to be pixelated at sum point !! i have kept the disc surfaces clean, but i will try dvd shrink, but i used xpress for many of my other films and they were perfect! its just the 4 copies of 2 fast 2 furious, and the 1st attempt at american pie 1 thanks anyway! Mark
It could be just the odd couple of discs that are not up to scratch then - even Ritek are not perfect. By all means try DVD Shrink and use the 'deep nalysis' option. This will then rip the disc thoroughly but will take much longer than with Xpress. However it's worth it as the final files ready for burning will be about the best quality you can get of any programme and are less likely to cause any problems. As is likely the case with Xpress, some pixelation can be due to poor ripping.
overprints are seconds that get handled during the process of reprinting so they can be covered in fingerprints.
My mate had this problem with those types.... Some worked flawlessly, some were not recognised, some would not burn, some would pixelate anywhere (beginning/middle or end).... I got him to change to Traxdata (ritek GO4) and this solved the issue..........The ones he had burned, disc to disc them and they were fine...... Proved that the info was there OK, just abit iffy playing them... As Malum stated, the fingerprint issue, but aswell - overprints mean they have been printed on twice.....could this actually cause a balancing issue, as I would expect that it could and would therefore assume they are not thouroughly checked for balance etc before shipping from the factory...... I know, before anyone says 'Mine work fine', it is a possibility, as I think it is a possibility, I would not touch em'...........
cheers guys, thanks for ur help, i will try and look for some better discs. the guy at the shop said these discs were the best and cos ive only been doin this for a week i took his word for it! baabaa - when u say disc to disc the ones ive copied, do u mean re copy those discs even tho they had the pixelation problem? wudnt the same happen on the new discs? or do u mean copy them again from the originals? Mark
Grade A Ritek G04s are certainly among the best in terms of value for money, just steer clear of overprints If the PC can read the disc without error then it will copy fine. It can retry the bits it has problems with multiple times (it will also have better error correction than your standalone)
Sir, You might want to try Princos 4x media. They are the best overall media I have ever used and cost alot less than Memorex, TDK, or other big name brands. I have yet to make a coaster with Princos. The 25-Pack can be purchased here: http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/amo/p_proddetail.php?kitNbr=293 Thanks, Mayor
Princos may be fine now but early bad experience means I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, they have an awful reputation
I agree with malum regarding princo's, people do have success with them though (so it maybe worth trying)... Once bitten twice shy, mud sticks and all.......I will not touch princo's due to the earlier discs had loads of issues..... Jonas7 The pixelation is caused between data transfer of disc to optic (during reading) and not the PHYSICAL data that is on the disc.......so therefore the data on the disc is good......so you should be able to disc to disc onto a higher quality media such as Ritek A grades.... Failing that you can just transfer the VIDEO_TS folder to the HD and then burn the folder back into dvd video (depending on your burning software)....that is the safer option to use....
cheers for ur help everone, ive just got sum infiniti dvd-r off my mate, and they seem to be the discs to use! i finally made a decent copy of 2 fast 2 furious, and no pixelation or skipping! so maybe u shud try these discs! Thanks Mark
If the infiniti work for you then I'd stick with them. You can waste a-lot of money trying new cheap discs or by giving Princo another try just becuase the price seems too good to miss. Everyone knows that most Princo discs are a complete waste of cash but so long as people keep buying them and giving them a second chance they will not improve.
