I'm a recent convert to apple. I travel quite a lot and would like to be able to play DVDs from different regions on my macbook pro. I'm not really interested in copying the movies, just playing them. When I had a laptop PC I used a utility called DVD43 which would effectively bypass the region checking. Is there anything like this for macs? Cheers.
There's a neato media player out there called VLC... found this by doing a google search... ahhh, the wonders of google. I think i've conquered every computer issue i've ever had by entering in crazy combos of key words. Product found here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html discussion found here: http://creativebits.org/toolbox/how_to_play_different_region_dvds_on_your_mac Now, are pc's better, .... well, there's more stuff out there for pc's, they can do just about the same job as a mac. BUT, I would say that with everyday use of both platforms over the past 12 years..... I like using my 3 macs better. I bring my macbook to work everyday and work with it right beside my Windows machine. I couldn't live without it. --- one last thought, you could use MacTheRipper to rip it to your hard drive and remove the region code that way. md.
Hey Soulfate, I've also recently started using a Macbook Pro and I found this useful link that explains how to turn your dvd to region free. I didn't try it myself yet, but listen to what it says and you can try it at your own risk. Hope it helps,
here's a good article... http://lowendmac.com/fishkin/06/0623.html after doing a little searching, it seems that vlc doesn't work every time. Also, certain dvd drives are not "flashable" (i don't think flashable is a word). It looks like the 1 and only guy who wrote the code for mac flashing has retired and no new programers have taken over. here's another way of using windows to help out. http://macnewbie.wordpress.com/2006...ook-pro-all-you-need-is-a-windows-xp-machine/
