I'm using convertxtodvd to encode and burn some xvids. When I go to play the dvd, it just pauses, then plays, pauses, and plays. It doesn't skip forward, or jumble the screen, it just does this, like it has to catch it's breath every 2 seconds. Can this be linked to something fixable?

I tried on both low, and medium encoder qualities** -- they both produce near, if not the same result. I have to turn the tv system to NTSC since the original video is PAL. Does this change cause that sort of behavior?

**(I'll probably give the high setting a try later. I'm just tired of tossing out dvds.)

This Probably has Nothing to do with the Software or the Video but with your Burning speed because this is exactly what Happens when you Burn your DVD"s at too high of a Speed.....

You should allways burn your Movie DVD"s at the Lowest Speed you can if you want Consistant reliable Burns...I recomend you Burn them at 2x speed or No faster than 4x speed...Bad Media Can also cause this but usually even bad media Can be successfully burned if burned at 2x speed....

The reason why this Happens is because of Video DVD"s do not have any Error correction Data so when the DVD Player hits a Burn error there is no data there to tell it how to handle the error so the error usually causes a Playback Problem like Jumpy Freezeing Playback and even Out of Sync and Pixelated Playback.....

Burning at a Low speed Lessens the Chance and Ammount of Burn errors which means Smooth Playback....

    Cheers

    I can't burn lower than 4x.

I encoded the avi file another time, this time on the high setting, which is supposed to be best. I wrote an iso first, and burnt that @4x, thinking maybe writing the iso first would add less chance for error, but the same thing happens.

I'm going to give up for now, which will be a relief, and when I get my nerve back up, I'll try something new, again.

This is a PS2 playstation 2, by the way.

I agree, and yes, they do play on another regular dvd player.

The reason I'm trying to get them work with the PS2 is because the same process worked flawlessly before, but with another movie. The only difference that stood out, was the movie came from an AVI with a higher bitrate:
    40 minutes - ~700MB
as opposed to this non-working movie:
    105 min. - ~700MB

I'll probably look into a divx/dvd player, or an inexpensive dvd player.

yes, I am having the same problem with my PS2 and videos encoded with ConvertXtoDVD. Unbelievable. I finally thought I had found a suitable replacement for NeroVision, but it looks like my search continues.

Also, when I played the DVD back on another DVD player, it did work without the pausing, however, it was zoomed in and could not be zoomed out!! Its really beyond me.

I've tried CCE+DVDLab, ProCoder2+DVDLab, NeroVisionXpress, SVCD2DVD, ConvertXtoDVD, etc, etc. Nothing seems to produce solid results except NeroVisionXpress... which is really a disappointment.

was your's converted from PAL to NTSC too? I'm suspicious that has a little to do with it.

yes actually it was PAL to NTSC converted. I encoded another one which was not converted, I believe (will double check the log). I will burn it and try it and let you know!

Ok, but you might have to convert it to be able to play it. I was thinking more like finding source files that are NTSC to begin with, or is this what you meant?

well, I tried the NTSC source files :: mixed results

the first 10 seconds played ok, then there were two pauses. Then it played fine for another minute, then a pause, then it appeared to play fine for another few minutes before I ejected the disc.

so overall it was a lot more random, and better preformance than the PAL -> NTSC, but it still was flawed.

I also popped the disc into my new dvd player, and again, just like the PAL disc, it has some type of auto zooming going on. I thought this was specific to the ConvertXToDVD encoder, but I did just buy the DVD player today, so I will need a few more days to test it all and see whats what.

all in all, it seems like ConvertXToDVD is going to fail me like many others...
