Hi, today I played a new DVD. when I played it with Dell media experience or power DVD it was choppy. But only choppy when there were no subtitles. When subtitles were displayed the playback was fine ! I played it with and without DVD Idle pro. Same thing happened in both cases.

After backing up with DVD shrink I played it from the hard drive and no problem.

    I have got a Dell Inspiron 5150.

Would anyone know what is causing the problem. I had it with more DVD s in the past but didn't notice the relation with the subtitles.

    Thanks Michiel

The choppyness is probably coming from an issue with playing the files. Theres not necessarily anything wrong with the actual files itself. You might want to try a different dvd viewing software. I have the same problem but I guess it doesnt bother me enough to do anything about it. I never have that problem with the actual media I burn it on and play it in a stand alone player. I have a problem that cant seem to be answered or I cant seem to find anyone that knows how to fix my problem. But I am having some trouble playing the copies movies back in my dvd drive on my computer. I've tried everything from reinstalling the OP, deleting the drives and installing them back again. Ive even upgraded the firmware. My drive play's origional dvd's and everything else I have no problem with. Its just my drive doesnt even notice that I put a disk in the drive when I insert a copied movie.

Here is the forum that I opended

    Thanks,

Today I burned the image of the "bad" new DVD which I made. The burned copy acted the same as the original one. When subtitling ok, when no subtitling: chopping.

In the stand alone player: no problem with both of them (original and copy).

Today I played another DVD on my labtop: no problem at all. It seems it is doing it dependend of the type of DVD you are putting into it. Would there be a problem with NTSC or something or is that not possible when you play it on your PC. I saw my problem DVD was made in NTSC. From the last one I played I could not see if it was in NTSC or PAl.

Yeah that would be good to make sure that your on NTSC and not PAL. I really dont know the details on the two but NTSC is the American Version and PAL is foriegn. Not sure what that will change cuz I always have mine on NTSC. But if I understand your problem correctly you may just have to update some video settings on your computer. Do you have the latest versoin of Direct X installed? You can try reinstalling your video drivers. That may or may nor help. Im also not really sure how reliable those dvd viewing software your using, cuz I use ATI multimedia and i have the choppy playback when I play the files off the Hard drive too. Keep in mind that there is nothing majorly wrong with your pC or laptop. I have the same problem, but there is no problem once you burn it to a disk and play it in your stand alone player. NOw your situation with the subtitles is something new. So it has a choppy playback on the stand alone too? What software are you copying and burning your movies with? Are you copying on-the-fly or coying the files to your hard drive first?
Oh yeah, whats the specifications of your pc.

I am using Power DVD, and dells media experience.

In the standalone DVD the copy and original play perfect while on the labtop not.
