I have recently downloaded some torrent files in .avi format and I am experiencing problems playing them back through windows media player. The image stutters up and down the screen through the whole length of the movie. When I playback through vlc media player the problem dissapears and it plays perfectly. This is ok for watching the files on a pc but I want to write them to a dvd and when I do the problem is still there when using the dvd player. Are there any programs I can use to get rid of this problem from the avi files so I can watch them using windows media playr and on a dvd player without this stuttering.
Doublecheck and ensure you have the right version of the required codec for the video using a program like Gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ or try recoding the AVI to another avi format using an AVI converter such as STOIK http://www.stoik.com/products/svc/index.html (the free version is perfect if you're just converting types, not editing) and see if it still has the problems.
