I just bought a standalone player (Samsung HD850) that can also display divx. Does this pretty well, but I have one problem. All movies I have that are encoded in 2.21:1 or 2.35:1 format (thus non 16:9 or 4:3) are stretched vertically, not showing black bars above/below. When setting my tv (Pio436 plasma) to 4:3 mode, I see the picture is stretched completely (vertically) to fill the screen. Is there anything I can do to these divx files to keep them in the right aspect ratio? (they play ok on my pc)

Hmmm... this is a playback issue (standalone settings).
If you cannot get the standalone to respect the aspect ratio, you must encode the AVI with the black bars in place, ie. 704 x 304 dummied-up to 704 x 528...
Black bars could be encoded into the AVI (but it is inefficient, for obvious reasons).
Dunno what to tell you - check playback settings :^)
