I have a modded Xbox (woot) with the latest EvoX dashboard, DVDX2 and all of that fun stuff. Lately I've been diving into the fun of backing up some movies. Short story, uh, short, I follow the guide here on Afterdark (DVD Decrypter, DVD2One, Nero) and these movies play in my PC, my PS2 and my friends stand alone player but just not in my Xbox or my friends Xbox with DVD remote/dongle. EvoX reports the backuped movie as "Unknown" and the origanal as "Video".

I searched through here and all I could find was to try to burn a disc in Nero using UDF mode and just manually make the Video/Audio_TS dirs and the same result, EvoX reports the backup as Unknown and even my PS2 is having a harder time figuring out what to do with it.

Any ideas? I prefer the Xbox playback over the PS2s (waaaay too dark, any dark scene is like watching it at a drive in, bleah)

What speed did you burn the disc at? I've had lots of problems burning at 4X. I reduced it to 2X and everything works at that. Also be careful about what version of Nero you use as some earlier versions had lots of problems with DVD video. Use the latest Nero. Or you could try PrimoDVD which has always worked for me. Just burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders as a data disc at 2X and all should be well. If you use decent discs of course.

    wassup..

i had this same exact problem with my dvd backups... i used nero burn to burn them and none of htem played or even were readable in the xbox (however, they worked on my pc and my sony dvd player)

the problem is in nero burn. go through the dvd wizard and choose video dvd, however, after you to the main window, go under the menu File > Compilation Info. Then go to the ISO tab, and uncheck the Joilet option. Then burn away and your disc should play in the xbox.

If not, try using a different burngin software. i use stomp recordnow max 4.5 and all of those dvds work fine in my modded version 1.0 xbox. you can get a demo copy at www.download.com

    hope that helps

Not sure if this will help at all, but I seemed to have problems playing backups of DVD movies until I installed XBOX media player 2.4. Once installed all my movies worked just fine. A few other good movie copy programs are Instant Copy, and DVD Decrypter.
