Hi there people - weird one this.

I always use xvid2dvd to convert my AVI files to DVD format and nerve had any real problems like this one.

In fact i have never seen this issue before.

A particular movie runs ok as an AVI in full colour. When converted, runs in full colour on my PC, but when i put the DVD into one of my 3 home DVD players, it's in Black and White!

I have re encoded it. Even clipped the begining thinking that something in the header was telling 'something' it's in BW. I have re burnt it at various speeds - no good.

Now, it's American (So might be NTSC), but i do a few American movies now and again :), but never had this issue.

Gspot says all is ok - have 5 codecs and it's OpenDML AVI (not sure what that is) And it renders ok.

The syntax for my problem brings a million hits on Google, so i thought i would ask here.

Anybody got any ideas. If it's nTSC, can i convert it to PAL?

It's driving me nuts, this one :(

    Hi marsey99,

I have that WINAVI prog, so i got hold of version 7.7 and tried that.

Still no good. Still B&W when played in other DVD players.

This is the ONLY avi i have ever got in 3 years that is doing this.

Even WINAVI showed colour in the preview window! There must be something in the codec methinks.

WINDVD plays it in colour, WMP plays it in colour.

I use Nero 6.6.0.12 to burn, maybe that's the problem?

Even other downloads done after 2 months after this are DVD Shrinking ok, converting ok, and burning ok.

This Avi file looks and behaves like any other Avi file i have on my PC. Only when it goes into another (home), DVD player does it show in B&W.

All the other Avi's i have done, all play on the other home dvd players and friends.

Does anyone know what i can look for that might give me the answer?

Should i be looking for something weird like signal strength?

I can't post this topic in the Dvix sections as they say 'no playback issues'.

Anyway if anyone reads this post (maybe a mod?), some one else may have a clue?

    Cheers,
    Fred.

in winavi when you select the target and output file click advanced and check pal as the ouput, if that dont change the b+w problem, see earlier post sorry i should of put this first

    Hi Marsey99,

Yep telling WINAVI to do PAL worked a treat. It was set on Auto and now the DVD plays in full glorious colour.

I must admit i never used Winavi that much, even though i had it. Xvid2DVd has always been faithful to me. I'll have to check and see if that prog has a Pal option - don't think it has though.

But at least i know what to do if this crops up again.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Fred.
