I originally posted this several weeks ago, but, even after following the advice of senior members, my problem persists. MaxBurn was helping me, but he seems to have disappeared. The original thread is located at http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/283337 and the most recent results are at http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/290012.

I'm using Nero 6.6.0.18, w/a Toshiba SD-R6012 v1334 DVD-RW drive, and Ridata 4.7GB 4X DVD-R media. When using both Nero and Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 the burn claims to be successful, but when I try to read the DVD, the computer reacts like there is no disc in the drive, and when I do a "disc properties" in Nero it says the disc is blank. No error messages, just a coaster. I've tried eight times, w/two different media (Ritek and Verbatim) w/the same results. I can burn CD-Rs w/no problem.

Following the advice of MaxBurn and others, I updated my DVD-RW firmware and Nero to the latest versions and updated my corrupt system APSI w/Force ASPI and the Nero Info Tool says my ASPI is instslled and working properly, but the burn results remained identical.

Please read the previous threads and let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you all VERY much. I am grateful for any help.

Looking at your Nero logs, you have one hard drive and one dvd-rom drive, right?

I have a little theory on your problem. You might wanna check the capabilities of your dvd drive.

You can use ImgBurn to determine on what type of medias you can burn to. You can download ImgBurn here: http://download.imgburn.com/SetupImgBurn_1.1.0.0.exe

Right-click on your dvd drive and scroll down to [bold]Capabilities[/bold]

After selecting "Capabilities", a little dialog box will pop up and display your drive's capabilities of reading/writing...

Alternatively, you can use Nero Info Tool to get the same information if you choose to not download and install ImgBurn.

Here's a screen cap of my Lite-On drive:

Let us know of your results...

From reading those threads again I see you said that after it reports success burn you can use the same -r disk again and it will write or report as writing to the disk again. If that is the case your dvd write head in the burner may have gone bad. Thats the only thing I can think of that could report as success and then let you use the same disk again and report as writing.

Thank you for the assessment. I fear you are correct. Is there any chance cleaning the head could fix it? I haven't tried that as I'm not sure where the head is located or how to access it.

It may help. Would be worth a try before replacement. You can use one of those dvd cleaner disks. Or you would have to take the drive apart and then you will see the head.

Thanks. I'll give those options a try.
