Try decompressing the Audio in your AVI file First before you encode it ....Most Programs will Choke on the Audio if it is VBR Mp3...

You can download a Small tool here that will decompress the audio in your AVI file which should solve your Problem(Hopefully)...

128 Kbps suggests that it is CBR. Although it is possible for VBR to be 128k, that would be a bit of a coincidence.

Windows comes with an mp3 decoder. You haven't been installing codec packs have you? Because something has screwed up your filters.

You could try enabling mp3 decoding in ffdshow or use another dshow mp3 decoder.

    Great tip by celtic_d!

After getting errors about an MP3 codec (mpeg-1 layer 3 48000 Hz 128 Kbps), I downloaded and installed codecs from 5 or 6 different installers and nothing helped. (Actually Nimo Codec Pack 5.0 build 9 B1 messed everything up. Videos upsidedown and mirror imaged)

I followed the tip and downloaded FFDSHOW. It's got way too many options for my use and appears quite technical. However, with it I was able to find that the codec was alreay installed, just deactivated. (MPEG in AVI)

    I'm impressed!
