I currently have a 160Gb Hard drive that was accidentally dropped while still installed in my laptop. After I powered down my computer and external drive, I rebooted and re-connected the external hard drive to the computer. The computer is not able to read any information contained in my external. All it says when connected the computer cannot recognize hardware. I tried to reconnect a few times with the same result. The external does not come with with software and is ready to use. Is there some way that I may be able to recover the information on my external drive? The drive is approx. 80% full of pics and movies. The external drive I have is a SimpleTech SimpleDrive, Model 96300-40001-001. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time.
Sounds like you toasted the drive......or at least the controller inside the SimpleTech. I would pull it apart, take out the drive and put it in another USB enclosure and test it out. The drive may still be good. ~Rich
