I installed Live last night. Oh, dang. I so wish I could have stopped myself from hitting that button.

Anyway, I used to have a backup of my Xbox C: drive, but I was storing it on my PC's hard drive, which was fine, up until the drive crashed a few weeks ago and I forgot to make another backup.

I'm running a Beta Enigmah, so a lot of what I've read doesn't help me. I've got EvoX running now, but no matter what I do, anytime I try to run the MS Dash I get the error 21 "your Xbox needs service" message with the flashing eject button.

I need to get my dash back so I can set the time and get to my memory cards and stuff. Is there anyone out there who can provide ANY help whatsoever, Please??

If there is anything you can do, links to tutorials, or other forum threads or anything that can help me, please post here or else send to st0mpy at netscape period net.

    Thank you very much!

are you able to boot from a cd and ftp into the xbox? if so, you might find that your original xboxdash.xbe was renamed to msxboxdash.xbe - if so, pull the xboxdash.xbe (evox) out of there and rename the msxboxdash to xboxdash.xbe and that should bring your old dashboard back.

    Hi!
I wish it was that easy. I don't know if I panicked and started renaming and moving without paying enough attention or what, but I've tried several different files and none of them work.

There might be hope, though. Someone else is helping me out, and I've got a factory C: partition to try out now. With any luck I'll be able to wipe mine (after a backup, of course), copy all the new stuff over, and I just might get lucky.

In the meantime, any other ideas would be much appreciated. You know, get 'em in the queue so I have other stuff to try right away in case this doesn't work.

I kinda think it will work, though. The thought is that the file versions are mismatched now. I might have the right dash, but the supporting files might be for the wrong version. So starting from scratch might just be the ticket. Geez, I feel so stupid.

    Thanks for the help though!

Sweet thanks! Of course, it might take me over a week to get the time to try this out (only took me 2 seconds to screw it all to hell), but I just might take you up on the offer.

    Thank you!

w00t!! It's all better. Got a full backup from someone, threw it up, and everything is just the way it was before I screwed it all up! Hooray! :)

Now to destroy all my controllers before I make the same stupid mistake ever again...
