are you getting any free to air channels , if your connection is ok you should have some (if all channels are gone maybe your provider is just down for everyone) check all cables and the scart .the encryption method is being changed as we speak so your box may not work much longer.

end of the line for cable boxs, try what I told ya above, reset, rescan without a splitter if you are using one, could be just freqs moved or there is a prob in your area with your service, but either way its coming to an end soon, dont part with any money for boxs

when you say freeview if you mean the terrestrial service that is a different system , that works through your aerial . you would have quite a few free channels , but you would get a lot of those by unplugging your cable connection from the box and connecting it direct to your tv. i would go for a free to air satellite dish and reciever mate you will get all the uk channels and lots more like film 4 ,reality channel, film channels ,music channels, kids channels loads enough to keep you going . you could easily up grade to sky from there (if you wanted) but you would have guaranteed free channels (sky or not) i wouldnt wait untill all boxes go off either , if its like here in ireland there will be a major scramble for freesat or sky installations and you might have a wait without tv. good luck mate.

maplins ,aldi/lidl, any of those would have them or try your local paper or free ads . if you want to watch all the footy your options are limited , so the obvious would be sky ( basic package + sports about £400 a year give or take) or pay for cable about the same price. you could get a box with a patch and point your dish at another satellite other than sky , this would give you football all be it in a foreign language (that might not be an option if you have kids etc , as nearly all channels are foreign) an other option is card sharing (you dont need to have a card to share )but you would need a box like the dreambox 500s and not a free to air ,and the box would need to be connected to your broadband router. you could purchase a c line either monthly or 3 monthly for around £45 for 3 months giving all the channels you want including espn and movies. there is all ready a thread on the forum for this so i wont say anymore on that as strictly speaking it is against forum rules . so go to the list of updated threads , and read the thread called shy channels on sat using dreambox , it will explain all for you.

40 quid aint bad MICKAH, but i gather this would not allow me to watch the footy so could u reccomend another way to watch it.
ANd thank you piopat i will try to research those avenues.
