hi all, my box when looked on the sites provided, seems both a clone and genuine mixed!

its remote box and there are no red blobs over the screws on the motherboard

whereas the back of the box is a 'clone' i am genuinly stuck on what i should do as my friends box has bricked as his was a clone

i did the same witgh the update of v3 but my box was fine but immideatly put the safe v2.7 just to be sure.

now i am fed up of inputting keys and want a firmware, i dont want to update the wrong firmware and wanting it to be bricked. ive asked this before but i am still unsure can somebody please help me identifing my box if it is a clone or genuine.

so then i can upgrade the firmware, thanks in advance

cheers, sorry about the long winded interpretation and question!

does it matter if my box is clone or not?

will it mess up a genuine box or is it safe for both the boxes?

    cheers

and also, looking on the site you have provided, there seem to be more than one 2.57 fw, which one is it?

so if i put that on my starview it will update the keys, and will be safe for both the genuine and starview!

thumbs up! or is there something i should know?

If this is the name of the file, STAR_VIEW_H20060816_257eE_api_FIXED.bin, then it should only be used on a clone as far as I know

i am unsure, as my box seems like a cross between a clone and a genuine, which software or firmware shu=ould i upgrade to?

is there one software that can be used safely for both the genuine and clone?

as my box is a cross between genuine and clone, it has components of both the genuine and clones

The clones are a copy of the first generation starview, so that is why the back looks the same.
What about the remote, if it looks like the copy one on that site, then I'd say you have a clone.
If the remote looks like either of the other 2, then it's probably a genuine.
I can't tell you, you'll have to decide for yourself
If you are fairly certain it's genuine, use the v4 firmware.

If you are certain it's a clone, use the 2.57 FIXED from the eko site.

If you really want to be safe, just use the normal 2.57, but you will have to keep inputting keys when they change.

As I said above, you'll have to decide for yourself, no-one will take responsibility for telling you
it's a clone or genuine, then your box dies 'cos they were wrong.

    The last bit of info I can give you is the number of vents;

    18 vents = clone

    13 vents = 1st generation

    25 vents = genuine

well thanks for your advice, im really not bothered to that extent, if it does go it goes and im not going to blame anybody!

ive had the eurovox too which seems to be working great, but the starview has just been there connected with no use.

if skysports 1 works on it im sure that it would be connected instead of the eurovox as sky sports doesnt work and im not risking removing all channels and starting afresh with just the keys!

    id also attach it because

firstly its picture quality seems to be better than the eurovox, and secondly it would be working!!

are you sure there is no software that automatically updates the keys and can be used for both the genuine and clone

by the way the remote is the genuine one and was bought about a year and a bit ago if that is any help to anybody

Are you saying the remote was bought on it's own a year ago, or the whole package. If the
whole lot was bought together a year ago, it's more than likely a genuine 1st generation, so
go ahead and put the v4 firmware on it.

As it stands right now, there is no version to autoroll that is safe to use on all boxes, thats why we had to be so careful
    determining what you have.

the remote came with the box so does that means its genuine

but it has 18 vents which means its a clone!

do you see how annoying this box is! its a cross between the two lol

    v2.57 FIXED ok?

I see what you mean. I was confusing this one with another we were trying to fix. With 18 vents, it should be a clone
but the remote kind of indicates a 1st generation.
I'm not really sure what you should do. If it goes down, it can be jtagged for about £10 in the UK, or
around €20 in Ireland, both plus return postage.

If you're not too bothered, try the 2.57 FIXED.

mmmmmm could just try the new firmware, also when it was upgraded with my frinds mine worked and his bricked, i put mine to a earlier version n all seems to be fine now

its confusing, i think i just mite use the 257 fixed as it doesnt seem a bad bet, the eurovox is still intact though so thumbs up if it does brick :D

and also jtagging for a tenner isnt too bad either!!

cheers mate i shall speak to you soon if i bother upgrading to v2.57 fixed or if im too scared and just upgrade the keys instead haha

anyways mate cheers and u seem to be the only one on at this time!

cheers mate again been a great help
