I recently got a new deck for my truck that reads MP3's so now I want to convert most of my CD's to MP3 format. I downloaded a program called dBpowerAMP to do this. I converted (or believe I did) 3 cd's to MP3 format. I saved these converted files to a familiar folder so not to lose track of them. When I tried to burn the 3 converted disks onto 1 disk, there wasnt enough room on the CD-r disk. All the songs from the 3 disks added up to 118 MB and the disk I have holds 700mb of info, why would it only burn half of the songs?
What program were you trying to burn them with? If you were making a "Data Disc", You should of been able to burn all 118Mb. If you were making an "Audio Disc", You can only fit about 80mins. of music on a normal CD.
thank you for the tip. I was trying to make an "audio disk" not a data disk. I will give that 1 a try. Im using nero to burn. Thanks again
you can't use dBPowerAMP to turn your audio CDs into mp3s. dBPowerAMP is just a format converter (wav to mp3, mp3 to wma...). You need a program first to rip you CDs to hard drive. The best ripper there is (and free) is called EAC or Exact Audio Copy. So start over again with your CDs. There is a plugin you install into EAC which is a LAME mp3 encoder, so all you need for this is EAC. It will rip then connect to the freedB (if you have internet running) and convert the wave files to mp3, and tag the mp3 files accourding to the tracks and artist. Then you need a burning program such as Nero or Roxio to burn the mp3s to a CDROM. when burning, just select to create a standard CDROM, not audio CD. then drag your mp3s in separate artist or album folders to it, and burn. That should do the trick.
forgot to mention that we have a guide here on how to install, setup, and use EAC. you can find the link in my sig below...
Normally I would agree with djscoop 100%. He knows his stuff about this kind of thing. This time though, you're wrong dj, on 1 thing that is. dbpoweramp does have a ripping agent. It even uses the Lame encoder. I gotta agree with ya though that EAC would be a better route to go. I've never used dbPoweramp to rip a CD. To opiejon: When you open up Nero Start Smart(or whatever the hell it's called), you should see an option to create an mp3 CD. This is the equivalent to a Data CD.
@digidave: you're absolutely right, my bad. I am just familiar with dBPowerAMP DMC (digital music converter). I totally forgot that there are other dBPowerAMP apps' that do other stuff besides the DMC. My bad, thats for the correction digidave. If the dBPowerAMP ripper works, then use it. The LAME mp3 encoder is the best there is. But if you're not having luck with that, use EAC...its the best.
just wanted to mention that all is working great. I didnt realize that I had to burn it as "data". Like I said, complete newbie....lol. Thanks again guy's
