I know you guys get a few of these, but i have searched the forums, and have done everything i can, with no sucsess!!! I have been using the latest version of nero, without any difficulties, but now it seems to have all gone tits-up! I dont know what i have changed or done for this error to come up (Please Insert Blank Media) but it's seriously doing my nut! i have tried using different media CD-R / DVD-/+R, reinstalling software, updtaing frimware (to the latest version i could find) but nothing seems to have done the trick! What i dont understand is, that everything was working fine a week-2weeks ago! After a day of trying to rectify this issue, (for reasons unknown to me) i am now able to burn CD-R(w)'s, but am still lacking the ability to write DVD-/+R(w)'s .... What is going on??? Spec: WinXP SP1 | D: _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A Firmware 1.09 conected to Primary IDE Thanks for any help/suggestions!
I have this drive on my work computer. Latest firmware is version 1.0c Also make sure to close all programs that could be trying to tie up the burner for their exclusive use such as InCD, Drag to Disc, Alcohol 120, Clone CD and others
OK.... so i have located the 1.0c Firmware, but it seems to think that the one currently installed is newer than the 1.0c im trying to flash the drive with...!!! I dont have anything running that would be 'tieing up' the DVD drive, as i keep the system processes which are running to an absolute minimum, unless they are required! The only thing which i have changed on my system within the last week is installing a wireless network card, but i dont see ho wthis would affect my D: ?!?!
1.0c is the latest firmware for this drive. The product is old enough the the firmware may not be upgraded again.
The drive has now been flashed with the latest Firmware... Still no luck! why would this need updating anyway? The device was working fine previously without any firmware updates. surely this is a software related issue of somesort
The usual software conflicts arise when another burning program monopolises the drive so no other program can "see" the blank media. Packet writing software and others I mentioned above are known to do this. Therefore, use msconfig to prevent ANY burning program from starting as part of the startup process. It is not good enough to disable the program later. Also would make sure the "drag or drop to disk" feature built in to Windows XP is deactivated.
I dont want this to sound rude, as i greatly apreciated any input/help, but i have perviously stated (maybe i didnt make it that clear).... "i have tried using different media" - As it states i have tried different media (all are from different brands: 2 DVD-R, 1 DVD-RW, 1 DVD+R and 2 types of DVD+RW) " i keep the system processes which are running to an absolute minimum, unless they are required" - no burning software startups up unless i run it!(done through msconfig) also i dont have any other burning software installed apart from Nero, so i doubt anything else would be 'monopolising' my burner... even if it were, i would have recieved that message when trying to burn CD-R(W)'s aswell, which i wasn't! I have however managed to fix my problem... The only reason i switched to windows was because of gaming. I have now installed a dual-boot with one of the latest distro's of Fedora core (Heidelberg... i highly recommend it!) and surprise surprise i can burn whatever i want without any difficulties!!! If i feel the need for some serious gamimg, i just boot up winblowz... So in conclusion, as i suggested it must have been somesort of software conflict, and the Firmware/media had no part to play in this misfortune... Again Thanks for all the help recieved...
No offense taken... I'd actually gotten your post confused with another I was reading... Glad you solved your problem...
