Plextor External 716UF Question

    Just a quickie question. According to the Plextor tech, I should always turn my plextor on before my computer. Is it really necessary to use the "saftey remove hardware" to turn it off, I mean I use that for my digital camera, because its not plugged into my computer 24/7, but the plextor is plugged in to a firewire. Can't I just turn it off,via the on/off switch in the back then turn off the computer?
