OK, it started with my last post. While attempting to diagnose the dual sided issue my Pioneer 106 was/is experiencing, something REALLY strange happened. I uninstalled both my pioneer and an older HP CD-R, physically and soft, uninstalled any and all DVD / Cd related software. I reinstalled the drives, my device manager shows the drives are installed and working properly. When I go to my comp or explorer I do not see them. If I place a disk in either one, nothing. So the computer sees the drives, says they are installed and operating correctly, but I cannot use them! I run Win 2000 Pro and it is fully up to date, looks like a patchwork quilt! Trouble shooting and result (rebooted after each step): Used device Manager to: - reload driver (no change) - uninstall re-install (no change) - update driver (no change) - uninstall - reboot - plug and play recognized - install (no change) Cleared registry settings for drives, repeat above (no change) Checked IDE/ATA properties: - Primary = boh hard dives - Secondary shows DVD and CD drives with proper master/slave designation Searched online for same type problem, found similar but not exact issues. Switched BIOS settings to boot from CD first. - Booted with Windows disk and ran repair (no change) - Booted Knoppix from other drive - Proved cable is good and drives function properly Flashed latest BIOS version (no change) So what do you think? It seems Windows "sees" and recignizes the drives, based on the above, but will not allow them to be used. The drives and cabling check out good. Registry has been cleared, BIOS settings verified and updated. I did verify ASPI was updated and verified via the program LOCOENG recommends. I am unable to load any software that may jar it back into ops and I haven't tried one drive at a time (will do that tomorrow). I am not running Roxio and Nero, I removed Roxio when I uninstalled the drives, never had Roxio. Config.sys doesn't really show anything that would allow me to help it see the drives (suggested using XP with similar problem).
Holy Crap!! Thanks DDP!I didn't think it would work because XP and NT are not the same, but it did! One further question if I can, now my ds burner says there is anaudio CD installed with 6 CDA tracks, I cannot play them, but they are there if I explore the drive. Any ideas? BTW, how do you guys know this stuff!! Thanks again!
